If there’s an athlete in the family, then HTV Flex Film is the material for you! Compared to HTV Sports Film, Flex Film is a thinner, more elastic material that’s perfect for beginner crafters! In fact, its elasticity has been measured as DOUBLE the stretchability of HTV Sports Film. It’s also wider than Sports Film by 2 inches (18″ vs 20″), which results in 72 square inches of extra material per yard. Compared to Siser’s EasyWeed® Stretch, our HTV Flex Film is 33% wider (20″ vs 15″), which results in 180 square inches of extra material, meaning you can cut two 8″ or 9″ letters and numbers side by side. Both products feature our proprietary adhesive, which has been tested up to 100 wash and dry cycles. Flex Film is our registered name for STRETCHABLE Heat Transfer Vinyl, which is a laminate of polyurethane (PU) and polyester Hot-Melt Adhesive specifically designed for use with textiles, and commonly referred to as Flexible HTV, Iron-On Vinyl, Heat Press Vinyl, Crafters Vinyl, and competes against Stahls’ CAD-CUT® Premium Plus™ + SportFILM Lite™ and Siser’s EasyWeed® Stretch. Sold by the yard in increments up to 50+ yards.

HTV Flex Film is recommended for use with the following fabrics: 100% Cotton, 100% Polyester, and Poly-Cotton Blends.

  • Temperature: 305°F
  • Time: 10-15 seconds
  • Pressure: Medium
  • Peel: Warm

HINT: Run a lint roller over the transfer area (on the garment) to remove any loose threads or stray fibers. Preheat your garment for 5 seconds. Place the transfer onto the garment, then place a cover sheet over the design. Time, temperature and pressure may vary if using an iron instead of a heat press machine.

HTV Flex Film can be cut using any laser cutter, plotter cutter, or desktop (craft) cutter like Silhouette Cameo and Cricut. Laser-cutting allows for super fine detail and is easier to see where the weeding should start. NOTE: Prior to cutting the HTV Flex Film, you must flip your design so that it’s it’s mirrored in your cutting machine. We recommend that you do a ‘test cut’ when using this material for the first time.

Fabric letting has traditionally been sewn onto jerseys, but inventions patented by TwillUSA in the area of pressure-sensitive and permanent adhesive formulations allowed for decorating those athletic jerseys for the purpose of identifying player names, numbers and teams. This fabric became known as “Tackle Twill” because of its durability and use in full-contact sports, and TwillUSA takes its name from that fabric. Now, more than 40 years later, we manufacture more than 30 different HTV materials and fabrics in 100+ unique colors, patterns and textures. Our production facilities in Indiana & Nevada double as wholesale distribution centers for the United States, Canada and Mexico, allowing most UPS® Ground shipments ($10.00 Flat-Rate) to arrive at the customer’s doorstep in as little as 2 or 3 days.

Why Buy HTV Vinyl Flex Film?

HTV Flex Film is STRETCHABLE, which is its main advantage over HTV Sports Film. Its elasticity has been measured as DOUBLE the stretchability of HTV Sports Film. It is also wider than Sports Film by 2 inches (18″ vs 20″), which results in 72 square inches of extra material per yard. Available in twelve (12) colors: Black, White, Gold, Kelly Green, Olive Green, Navy, Red, Royal, Neon Green, Neon Orange, Neon Pink, and Neon Yellow. Why buy from JOANN, Hobby Lobby, Michaels® or other middlemen online when you can purchase direct from the manufacturer? Twill USA has dozens of Heat Transfer Materials in hundreds of colors, warehouses in Nevada and Indiana for fast delivery, plus $10.00 flat-rate shipping on all orders. Contact our USA-based Customer Service Team at (866) 806-9120 or email sales@twillusa.com with any questions or concerns.

How Thick Is The HTV Flex Film?

Our Flex Film has a thickness of about 4-Mils compared to 7-Mils for our HTV Sports Film material.

Is HTV Vinyl Flex Film Stretchable?

Flex Film is a durable, polyurethane-based Heat Transfer Vinyl (“HTV”) that is highly flexible and stretchable. It must be ironed onto garments, also known as “Heat Pressing,” to activate the hot-melt adhesive for the material to stick to most fabrics. If stretchiness is NOT an important feature for you, please consider our HTV Sports Film instead.

How Easy Is HTV Flex Film To Weed?

Weeding, which is the process of removing unnecessary material from a design, can be fair to moderate, especially when working with small letters or intricate designs. Peel warm.

Can The HTV Vinyl Flex Film Be Layered?

We recommend Flex Film for layering as you can put 2 or 3 layers on top of each other for multicolor designs. It can also be layered on top of Sports Twill or Sports Felt and Fashion Fabrics. NOTE: Cannot be layered on top of Metallic Twill as the Hot-Melt Adhesive does not adhere to the metallized yarns.

Which Side of The HTV Flex Film Do I Cut?

Place the HTV Flex Film glossy-side facedown (matte side face-up). The shiny side of the material is the Mylar carrier. The clear, Mylar carrier holds the Heat Transfer Vinyl in place so that the design stays intact when cutting and heat pressing.

What Does The HTV Vinyl Flex Film Adhere To?

HTV Flex Film adheres to most fabrics except for Nylon and Leather. It works well with 100% Cotton, 100% Polyester and Poly-Cotton Blends. Our HTV Sports Grip is a similar product with a slightly modified hot-melt adhesive that is ideally suited for Nylon fabrics.

Can I Cut HTV Flex Film On A Tabletop Plotter?

HTV Vinyl Flex Film cuts clean on all desktop cutters, including Cricut and Silhouette Cameo. All forms of cutting work — laser, plotter, flat-bed plotter, die cutting and shearing.
