Metallic PSA FAQs
What Is PSA Metallic Twill?
Metallic Twill is a woven fabric that utilizes metallic yarns to create a shiny applique material. We coat the PSA Metallic Twill with our proprietary hot-melt adhesive (PS960 51" PSA) so that it can be cut easier, layered, re/positioned and heat pressed. PSA Metallic Twill has a hardness specification on the upper end, which makes it much easier to achieve a clean cut. Clean cuts are are critical for embroidery machines that demand a precise edge to put a zigzag or satin stitch on the design.
Can I Layer The Metallic Twill?
Is This Considered Tackle Twill?
Metallic Twill has been used as 'Tackle Twill' and for field logos, but is not normally considered tackle twill. Please consider our Sports Twill for that purpose.
Is The PSA Metallic Twill PVC-Free?
Yes. The Metallic Twill and our proprietary Hot-Melt adhesives are 100% free of PVCs.
Do I Have To Sew The Design After Cutting It?
Yes. After cutting, the Polyback Metallic Twill can be heat-pressed onto the garment to hold the design in place while sewing. If you are looking to heat press the garment after sewing, we recommend our PSA Permanent or Permanent Metallic Twill instead of the PSA.
How Is Metallic Twill Different Than Sports Twill?
These products are similar in that both are twill fabrics, but the Metallic Twill uses metallized nylon yarns whereas Sports Twill uses polyester filament yarns. There are also slight differences in the yarn size and the weave pattern.
Does PSA Metallic Twill Have An Adhesive Backing?
Yes. The thermal adhesive backing completely seals the twill yarns and provides stability for cutting + sewing onto garments. Its polyester-based coating has no PVC and can be cut on plotters, dies, lasers or even hand-cut. This adhesive system -- (PS960 51" PSA) -- is available separately for coating materials other than Metallic Twill.
Can I Cut PSA Metallic Twill On A Tabletop Plotter?
Tabletop plotters aren’t 51″ wide, so the material will need to be cut down first. However, once properly sized, this fabric cuts clean on all desktop cutters including Cricut and Silhouette Cameo. All forms of cutting work on the PSA Sports Twill — laser, plotter, flat-bed plotter, die cutting and shearing. NOTE: May fray a bit when plotter-cut and heat pressed.
What Blade Should I Use To Cut PSA Metallic Twill?
A 60° blade works best for cutting PSA Metallic Twill. On some machines it's called the "thick" blade. Machines vary, but 120 grams of downforce is usually sufficient to get a clean cut.
How Long Does PSA Metallic Twill Last On The Garment?
We have tested this material up to 50 wash and dry cycles in a home laundry environment without fraying, cracking or peeling. PSA Metallic Twill is sewn down onto garments, so it should last as long as the garment itself.
Will The PS960 PSA Adhesive Gum Up My Sewing Needles?
Our proprietary hot-melt adhesives feature a needle glide additive designed to sew without gumming. Sharp needles work better than ballpoint needles. HINT: Coating the needle with silicone also helps to promote a clean stitch. All manners of stitching work well, including zig zag, satin, bean, and lockstitch.
