Reflective technology has been around for decades. Originally, it utilized coated glass beads to reflect incoming light back toward its source. In fact, the proper nomenclature is "Retroreflective." Today, in addition to the glass beads, there exists prism technology, which uses sharp angles to reflect light. Originally intended for high-visibility clothing, it can be used on any garment to add an exciting and unique dimension to apparel decorating that cannot be achieved with other material types.

TwillUSA.com offers 2 types Reflective materials: HTV Vinyl (uses glass beads and prism technology) and 3M™ Reflective Fabric (uses glass beads). All of our Reflective Materials are designed for use with plotter cutters, desktop (craft) cutters, or on laser cutters to create custom patterns that are sure to dazzle. Available in Silver only. Sold by the yard in rolls up to 50 yards per color.

20" Silver Reflective HTV Vinyl

Reflective Heat Transfer Vinyl uses prism technology to achieve retro-reflectivity. Prisms are more efficient than glass beads, so the reflected light is brighter. This material is somewhat thinner and more flexible than fabric. Available in Silver only and sold in rolls by the yard. Easy to cut. Easy to weed. Easy to apply. NOTE: Reflective HTV Vinyl should be heat-pressed, not sewn onto garments. THIS ITEM IS CURRENTLY ON BACKORDER and cannot be added to the Cart.

16" Silver Reflective Fabric

Reflective Fabric utilizes coated glass beads to reflect incoming light back toward its source. It is encapsulated onto a Poly-Cotton blended fabric (65% Polyester, 35% Cotton) and laminated with our Permanent P600 5-Mil Adhesive. It is a durable fabric with a heavy hand, both washable and dryable. Can be heat-pressed or sewn onto garments. Available in Silver only and sold in rolls by the yard. Easy to cut. Easy to weed. Easy to apply. NOTE: This product can be plotter-cut, but that is not recommended as the glass beads will dull the blade quickly. Therefore, we strongly recommend laser-cutting. It can also be die-cut or waterjet-cut.

What Is Reflective Vinyl?

Reflective Heat Transfer Vinyl uses prism technology to achieve retro-reflectivity. Prisms are more efficient than glass beads, so the reflected light is brighter. This material is somewhat thinner and more flexible than fabric. NOTE: Reflective HTV Vinyl should be heat-pressed, not sewn onto garments.

What is Reflective Fabric?

Reflective Fabric utilizes coated glass beads to reflect incoming light back toward its source. It is encapsulated onto a Poly-Cotton blended fabric (65% Polyester, 35% Cotton) and laminated with our Permanent P600 5-Mil Adhesive. It is a durable fabric with a heavy hand, both washable and dryable. Can be heat-pressed or sewn onto garments. NOTE: This product can be plotter-cut, but that is not recommended as the glass beads will dull the blade quickly. Therefore, we strongly recommend laser-cutting. It can also be die-cut or waterjet-cut.

Can These Products Be Layered?

Yes. Reflective HTV Vinyls can be layered (but not overlapped) with other HTV products and fabrics (e.g. Vinyl on Vinyl). It may be layered on top of [guided-journey button_text="Sports Twill"] or [guided-journey type='felt' button_text="Sports Felt"] (but not [guided-journey type='metallic' button_text="Metallic Twill"]) or used with any other heat transfer materials. Reflective Fabric can be layered on top of any material except for Metallic Twill. Overlapping is only possible if the transfer is sewn onto the garment.

Are These Products Stretchable?

No. These are among the most durable products offered by Twill USA. As such, it has minimal rebound and a stiffer feel. Pliable, but not stretchable.

To Which Fabrics Does They Adhere?

Our Reflective HTV Vinyl adheres to Acrylics, 100% Cotton, Polyester Knits, Polyester Mesh, 100% Polyester, Poly-Cotton Blends, Poly Form and Cotton Caps. The Reflective Fabric is recommended for use with Acrylics, 100% Cotton, Polyester Knits (not Mesh), 100% Polyester, Poly-Cotton Blends, Poly Form and Cotton Caps.

How Durable Is The Reflective Vinyl and Fabric?

Our Reflective Materials are extremely durable. They have been tested to withstand 50 wash and dry cycles without cracking, peeling or fading.

What Are The Care Instructions For These Products?

For best results, we recommend that you wait 24 hours before washing for the first time. Turn the garment(s) inside out and use cold temperature with a mild detergent only. Hang dry. Do not use bleach.

Can Reflective HTV Vinyl and Fabric Be Ironed Onto Garments?

Unlike some competitors, Twill USA-made Reflective Materials feature a Permanent Hot-Melt Adhesive backing that can be ironed onto garments directly. When your iron is at temperature, place a TeflonTM sheet over the transfer, then use light-to-medium pressure for about 15 seconds. Let cool before peeling warm. If any part of the design has difficulty adhering to garments, simply iron the transfer for an additional 5-10 seconds.

Do I Cut This Material Shiny-side Up or Shiny-side Down?

Reflective HTV Vinyl is designed to work with any laser cutter, plotter or desktop (craft) cutter -- including Cricut and Silhouette Cameo -- you must mirror the design before cutting. Load the material into your cutting machine with the shiny-side facedown. We recommend that you make a 'test cut' prior to using Reflective HTV for the first time to ensure that your cut settings are correct. NOTE: Reflective Fabric should be laser-cut, die-cut or waterjet-cut instead of plotter-cut as the glass beads will dull the cutting blade.

Do I Have To Use A Cover Sheet When Heat Pressing Reflective Vinyl?

Yes. You should always cover your Reflective HTV Vinyl or Reflective Fabric with a brown kraft sheet, parchment paper or TeflonTM sheet to protect the material, the heat press and your garments.
