More About Us

Do You Have Adhesive To Embroider Patches?

To bond an embroidered patch to garments, use our P600 5-Mil Permanent Hot-Melt Adhesive. Apply the P600 adhesive to the back of the patch, trim off any excess material, and it’s ready to heat press and fuse.

Which Adhesive Is Best For Sewing Applications?

The PS960 is the best adhesive to use to keep fabric for sewing applications in place. It utilizes a peel-and-stick pressure sensitive adhesive (“PSA”) with a needle glide additive to prevent gummed-up needles.

Which Types of Fabric Does Your Adhesive Bond To?

Our proprietary Hot-Melt Adhesives permanently bond to all types of fabric except for nylon and leather. It will adhere to cotton, polyester, poly-cotton, acrylics like Sports Felt and performance fabrics. The adhesive can also be used as a temporary bond in order to sew.

Will The Heat Press Adhesive Gum Up My Sewing Needles?

Our proprietary Hot-Melt Adhesives feature a needle glide additive designed to sew without gumming. Sharp needles work better than ballpoint needles. HINT: Coating the needle with silicone also helps to promote a clean stitch. All manners of stitching work well, including zig zag, satin, bean, and lockstitch.

Is This Product Similar to Heat’n Bond And Wonder-Under?

Our P600 Hot-Melt Adhesive is similar to both Heat’n Bond and Wonder-Under. However, the P600 is a solid hot-melt film while Wonder-Under is a non-woven web. Consequently, the film features more adhesive than a web of the same thickness and is more durable as a result.

Is Sewing Required After Cutting Your PSA Permanent Backing?

Our PS965 PSA Permanent backing was designed so that sewing on the garment is unnecessary. It features a dual peel-and-stick component to hold it in place and a hot-melt component that permanently fuses to the garment upon heat pressing.

Does Your Adhesive Have A Backing So That I Can Cut It On My Plotter Or Craft Cutter?

P600, PS960 and PS965 can be used with a multitude of cutters depending on the application. The PS960 and PS965 have Mylar backings that allow plotters to Kiss Cut through to the liner. It also has a peel-and-stitch feature that holds the applique in place for permanent bonding (PS965) or for embroidery or sewing (PS960). The P600 is intended only for Silhouette or Cricut desktop cutters or can be hand-cut with scissors.

What Is Sports Twill?

Tackle Twill is a generic name for the fabric lettering used to decorate athletic jerseys. Originally used for football, it is a very tough, durable material now used on all sports and cheerleading uniforms. Our registered version of it is called Sports Twill.

Why Buy Our Tackle Twill?

As the manufacturer, we offer Tackle Twill in more colors than anyone else. Available in 40 colors — White, Tan, Cream, Black, Gray, Eagle Gray, Charcoal Gray, Cyan, Quebec, Cobalt, Columbia, Navy Blue, Royal Blue, Dark Royal, Lilac, Purple, Pink, Neon Pink, Greek Pink, Red, Devil Red, Cardinal Red, Maroon, 49er Burgundy, Brown, Shark Teal, Neon Green, Kelly Green, Dark Green, Orange, Burnt Orange, Texas Orange, Safety Orange, Tennessee Orange, Gold, Old Gold, Light Gold, Vegas Gold, Maize and Neon Yellow. Compare that to Dalco Athletic’s 17 colors and Stahls’ 16 colors.

Can Sports Twill Be Layered?

Yes. It can be layered 2 or 3 layers thick with Sports Twill or Metallic Twill or another applique material like Sports Felt for multicolor designs. We recommend a maximum of 3 layers as 4 or more layers can be too thick to heat apply.

Is Sports Film 100% PVC-Free?

Sports Twill and our proprietary Hot-Melt Adhesives are 100% free of Polyvinyl Chloride (“PVC”). PVC contains dangerous chemical additives that can be harmful to your child’s health.

Can Sports Twill Be Cut On A Tabletop Plotter?

Sports Twill cuts clean on all desktop cutters including Cricut and Silhouette Cameo. All forms of cutting work on the Sports Twill — laser, plotter, flat-bed plotter, die cutting and shearing.

What Blade Should I Use To Cut PSA Sports Twill?

60° blades work best for cutting 51″ PSA Sports Twill. On some machines it’s called the “thick” blade.

How Long Will Sports Twill Last On The Garment?

We have tested this material up to 50 wash and dry cycles in a home laundry environment without fraying, cracking or peeling. If sewing, then Sports Twill should last as long as the garment itself.

Can I Use Sports Twill To Embroider Custom Patches?

Yes. The polyester-based Sports Twill works perfectly for embroidering patches.

Must I Sew The Tackle Twill Design Onto The Garment After Cutting It?

Yes. If you are looking to heat press the garment after sewing, we recommend our PSA Permanent Sports Twill or Permanent Sports Twill instead of the Polyback, Pressure-Sensitive PSA or Uncoated.

Can I Sublimate Onto Sports Twill? Which Tackle Twill Product Is Best For Sublimation?

We do not recommend sublimating onto Tackle Twill with an adhesive backing as the temperature required for sublimation is higher than the temperature at which the Hot-Melt Adhesive will activate. In our experience, this causes the glue to “come up” through the surface of the print. Therefore, we recommend sublimating onto Uncoated Sports Twill first, then applying PS965 5-Mil PSA Permanent Adhesive afterwards, which allows for heat pressing or sewing the transfer onto the garment(s).

What Is Metallic Twill?

Metallic Twill is a woven fabric that utilizes metallic yarns to create a shiny applique material. We coat the Metallic Twill with our proprietary Hot-Melt Adhesives so that it can be cut easier, layered, re/positioned and heat pressed. Metallic Twill has a hardness specification on the upper end, which makes it much easier to achieve a clean cut. Clean cuts are are critical for embroidery machines that demand a precise edge to put a zigzag or satin stitch on the design.

Is Metallic Twill PVC-Free?

Yes. The Metallic Twill and our proprietary Hot-Melt Adhesives are 100% free of Polyvinyl Chloride (“PVC”). PVC contains dangerous chemical additives that can be harmful to your child’s health.

Can Metallic Twill Be Layered?

If sewn, it can be layered 2 or 3 layers thick on itself or Sports Twill or another applique material like Sports Felt for multicolor designs. We recommend Metallic Twill as the topmost layer ONLY if heat pressing, and a maximum of 3 layers as 4 or more layers can be too thick to heat apply.

Is Metallic Twill Considered Tackle Twill?

Metallic Twill has been used as ‘Tackle Twill’ and for field logos, but is not normally considered Tackle Twill. Please consider our Sports Twill for that purpose.

Does Metallic Twill Have An Adhesive Backing?

Yes. The thermal adhesive backing completely seals the twill yarns and provides stability for cutting + sewing onto garments. Its polyester-based coating has no PVC and can be cut on plotters, dies, lasers or even hand-cut. These Heat Press Adhesives are available separately for coating materials other than Sports Felt.

Can I Cut Metallic Twill On A Tabletop Plotter?

Metallic Twill cuts clean on all desktop cutters including Cricut and Silhouette Cameo. All forms of cutting work on the PSA Sports Twill — laser, plotter, flat-bed plotter, die cutting and shearing. NOTE: May fray a bit when plotter-cut and heat pressed.

What Blade Should I Use To Cut Metallic Twill?

A 60° blade works best for cutting Metallic Twill. On some machines it’s called the “thick” blade. Machines vary, but 120 grams of downforce is usually sufficient to get a clean cut.

Can I Use Metallic Twill To Embroider Patches?

Metallic Twill is not typically used for that purpose. Most patches are made from Polyester Sports Twill.

How Is Metallic Twill Different Than Sports Twill?

These products are similar in that both are Tackle Twill fabrics, but the Metallic Twill uses metallized nylon yarns whereas Sports Twill uses polyester filament yarns. There are also slight differences in the yarn size and the weave pattern.

Must I Sew The Metallic Twill Design After Cutting It?

How Long Does Metallic Twill Last On The Garment?

Why Use HTV Vinyl Sports Film?

It’s a tried-and-true solution for athletic jerseys. It has been our #1 seller since its introduction nearly 40 years ago, replacing Felt numbers and screen-printing. HTV Sports Film allows for names and numbers for entire teams without cutting a single screen. Additionally, it can be weeded easily without snapping or breaking, and minimizes dye migration. Because it is so easy to cut and weed, Sports Film is often used to make bulk Iron-On Letters and Numbers via die-cutting or water jet cutting. Once cut, it can literally be ironed onto garments. Available in 24 colors — White, Black, Gray, Baby Blue, Light Royal, Columbia Blue, Royal Blue, Navy Blue, Purple, Pink, Pastel Pink, Red, Cardinal Red, Maroon, Brown, Shark Teal, Neon Green, Kelly Green, Dark Green, Orange, Gold, Old Gold, Vegas Gold and Maize (Yellow).

How Thick Is The HTV Sports Film?

Heat Transfer Vinyl (“HTV”) Sports Film is a laminate of polyurethane (PU) and polyester adhesive. Our Sports Film has a thickness of about 7-Mils compared to 4-Mils for our HTV Flex Film. We usually recommend Flex Film for layering as it’s a thinner HTV Vinyl (4-Mils). However, if you’re partial to HTV Sports Film (7-Mils), you can put 2 or 3 layers on top of each other for multicolor designs. It can also be layered on top of Sports Twill or Sports Felt and Fashion Fabrics. NOTE: Cannot be layered on top of Metallic Twill as the Hot-Melt Adhesive does not adhere to the metallized yarns.

How Easy Is HTV Vinyl Sports Film To Weed?

The Mylar carrier has a low tack adhesive so that only the area you are trying to weed peels off. Any part of the design that accidentally peels off can be pressed back down. This durable film doesn’t break apart easily so it can usually be pulled off in one piece. Peels warm or cold.

Can The HTV Vinyl Sports Film Be Textured?

Is It Available In Number Packs And Letter Packs?

Yes. Our lay-flat HTV Sports Film numbers (and number packs) are easily handled and positionable. It can purchased with or without our proprietary adhesive as well.

An added benefit is that our HTV Sports Film can be dry-cleaned.

HTV Flex Film is STRETCHABLE, which is its main advantage over HTV Sports Film. Its elasticity has been measured as DOUBLE the stretchability of HTV Sports Film. It is also wider than Sports Film by 2 inches (18″ vs 20″), which results in 72 square inches of extra material per yard. Available in twelve (12) colors: Black, White, Gold, Kelly Green, Olive Green, Navy, Red, Royal, Neon Green, Neon Orange, Neon Pink, and Neon Yellow.

How Thick Is The HTV Flex Film?

Our Flex Film has a thickness of about 4-Mils compared to 7-Mils for our HTV Sports Film material.

Is HTV Vinyl Flex Film Stretchable?

Flex Film is a durable, polyurethane-based Heat Transfer Vinyl (“HTV”) that is highly flexible and stretchable. It must be ironed onto garments, also known as “Heat Pressing,” to activate the hot-melt adhesive for the material to stick to most fabrics. If stretchiness is NOT an important feature for you, please consider our HTV Sports Film instead.

How Easy Is HTV Flex Film To Weed?

Weeding, which is the process of removing unnecessary material from a design, can be fair to moderate, especially when working with small letters or intricate designs. Peel warm.

Can The HTV Vinyl Flex Film Be Layered?

We recommend Flex Film for layering as you can put 2 or 3 layers on top of each other for multicolor designs. It can also be layered on top of Sports Twill or Sports Felt and Fashion Fabrics. Which Side of The HTV Flex Film Do I Cut?

What Does The HTV Vinyl Flex Film Adhere To?

HTV Flex Film adheres to most fabrics except for Nylon and Leather. It works well with 100% Cotton, 100% Polyester and Poly-Cotton Blends. Our HTV Sports Grip is a similar product with a slightly modified hot-melt adhesive that is ideally suited for Nylon fabrics.

To Which Materials Do They Adhere To?

Fashion Fabric is recommended for use with Acrylics, 100% Cotton, Polyester Knits (not Mesh), 100% Polyester, Poly-Cotton Blends, Poly Form and Cotton Caps. If sewing, then it works well with all previously listed fabrics plus Polyester Mesh and Nylon.

Can Fashion Fabrics Be Ironed Onto Garments?

Fashion Fabrics feature our U.S. patented PS965 PSA Permanent Hot-Melt Adhesive backing that can be ironed onto garments directly. When your iron is at temperature, place a TeflonTM sheet over the transfer, then use light-to-medium pressure for about 15 seconds. If any part of the design has difficulty adhering to garments, simply iron the transfer for an additional 5-10 seconds.

What Are The Care Instructions For This Product?

For best results, we recommend that you wait 24 hours before washing for the first time. Turn the garment(s) inside out and use cold temperature with a mild detergent only. Hang dry. Do not use bleach.

Fashion Fabric is designed to work with any laser cutter, plotter or desktop (craft) cutter — including Cricut and Silhouette Cameo. Load the material into your cutting machine with the fabric side face-up (positive image). We recommend that you make a ‘test cut’ prior to using Fashion Fabric for the first time to ensure that your cut settings are correct.

What Is Sports Felt?

Sports Felt is a type of textile fabric made from non-woven Acrylic Felt. The material is very strong and durable, which makes it a favorite for activewear applications including retro-style logos and numbers for throwback jerseys, crafting, and appliques. Very popular on sweatshirts and beanies. In its uncoated state, it is somewhat flimsy. For this reason, we offer adhesive-backed versions which include stabilizers so that it’s easier to cut and handle. Our adhesive-backed versions are called Polyback, Pressure Sensitive PSA, Permanent and PSA Permanent. NOTE: Uncoated Sports Felt product must be sewn onto the garment. As the manufacturer, we offer Acrylic Felt in more colors than anyone else. Available in 26 colors — Black, Smoke, Silver Gray, Baby Blue, French Blue, Navy Blue, Royal Blue, Dark Royal, Purple, Emerald, Evergreen, Pirate Green, Red, Cardinal Red, Burgundy, Pink, Blush, Fucshia, Gold, Antique Gold, Camel, Brown, Orange, Eggshell, Ivory and White.

Is Sports Felt PVC-Free?

Yes. The Acrylic Felt is 100% free of Polyvinyl Chloride (“PVC”). PVC contains dangerous chemical additives that can be harmful to your child’s health.

Can Sports Felt Be Layered?

When sewn, it can be layered 2 or 3 layers thick on itself or Sports Twill or other applique material for multicolor designs. If used with Metallic Twill, we DO NOT recommend the Metallic Twill as the bottommost layer (background).

Can I Cut Sports Film On A Tabletop Plotter?

Tabletop plotters aren’t 36″ wide, so the material will need to be cut down first. However, once properly sized, the fabric cuts clean on many desktop cutters including Cricut and Silhouette Cameo. NOTE: May be too thick for some plotter cutters.

Does Sports Felt Have An Adhesive Backing?

Yes. The thermal adhesive backing provides stability for cutting and sewing onto garments. Its polyester-based coating has no PVC and can be cut on craft cutters, dies, lasers, Ioline flatbed cutters or even hand-cut. These Heat Press Adhesives are available separately for coating materials other than Sports Felt.

What Blade Should I Use To Cut Sports Felt?

A 60° blade works best for cutting Sports Felt. On some machines it’s called the “thick” blade. Machines vary, but 150 grams of downforce is usually sufficient to get a clean cut.

How Is Sports Felt Different Than Scrim Felt?

Scrim Felt is a coarse, less dense — albeit heavier and stiffer than Acrylic or Wool — fabric typically used as a lining or background material. In the apparel world, Sports Felt is used as an applique material. It is a more densely constructed fabric used for finishing garments.

How Is Sports Felt Different Than Wool Felt?

The yarns are different. The Acrylic Felt is a manmade synthetic resin. As such, it washes better and needs no special care like Wool Felt.

How Is Sports Felt Different Than Sports Twill?

Sports Twill is a dense, woven material made from 100% Polyester, whereas Sports Felt is a non-woven material made from 100% Acrylic. Felt has a textured, fuzzy look that’s popular on sweatshirts, hoodies, beanies and retro (throwback) jerseys. The adhesive systems used (Polyback, PSA, Permanent and PSA Permanent) are exactly the same for both products.

How Long Does Sports Felt Last On The Garment?

Acrylic Felt is washable. We have tested this material up to 50 wash and dry cycles in a home laundry environment without fraying, cracking or peeling.

Can I Use Sports Film To Embroider Iron-On Patches?

Sports Felt can be used for that purpose, although most patches are made from 100% Polyester Sports Twill.

Can Sports Felt Be Used To Decorate Letterman Jackets?

Letterman jackets are typically decorated with chenille, which are several times thicker than Sports Felt. Felt can be used on jackets, but it won’t be as thick, which can be an advantage in terms of flexibility. Custom Felt designs are also less expensive, with more color options, and delivered faster than chenille.

Do I Have To Sew The Sports Felt Design After Cutting It?

Yes. After cutting, the Sports Felt should be sewn down onto the garment to hold the design in place permanently. If you are looking to heat press the garment after sewing, we recommend our PSA Permanent Sports Felt or Permanent Sports Felt instead of Polyback, Pressure-Sensitive PSA or Uncoated.

Custom Cut Applique is used as an alternative to embroidery. Applique allows for multicolor, multilayer designs with a minimal amount of stitching. It can save time money while enhancing the look of the garment. Custom applique is a way to embellish apparel like athletic jerseys and activewear with an exact style and appearance. As opposed to stock designs, fonts or clip art, custom applique is available in a wide variety of colors, fabrics and textures.
