PSA Permanent Twill FAQs.
What Is PSA Permanent Twill?
Tackle Twill is a generic name for the fabric lettering used to decorate athletic jerseys. Originally used for football, it is a very tough, durable material now used on all sports and cheerleading uniforms. Our registered version of it is called Sports Twill. 16.5" PSA Permanent Sports Twill is the #1 choice for laser cutters. It can be used for no-sew applications or it can be embroidered onto garments as an applique. Perfect for kiss-cutting 2-color designs. Repositionable. Works with all laser cutters and applications.
Can The PSA Permanent Be Layered?
Yes. It can be layered 2 or 3 layers thick with other applique materials for multicolor designs. We recommend a maximum of 3 layers as 4+ can be too thick to heat apply.
Is PSA Permanent Sports Twill PVC-Free?
PSA Permanent Sports Twill and our proprietary Hot-Melt Adhesives are 100% free of Polyvinyl Chloride ("PVC"). PVC contains dangerous chemical additives that can be harmful to your child's health.
Can I Cut PSA Permanent Twill On A Tabletop Plotter?
Tackle Twill fabric cuts clean on all desktop cutters including Cricut and Silhouette Cameo. All forms of cutting work on PSA Permanent Sports Twill — laser, plotter, flat-bed plotter, die cutting and shearing.
What Blade Should I Use To Cut PSA Permanent Twill?
60° blades work best for cutting PSA Permanent Sports Twill. On some machines it's called the "thick" blade.
Does PSA Permanent Sports Twill Have An Adhesive Backing?
PSA Permanent's thermal adhesive backing (PS965 PSA Permanent) completely seals the twill yarns and provides stability for cutting + sewing on garments. Its polyester-based coating has no PVC and can be cut on plotters, dies, lasers, or even hand-cut. This adhesive system is available separately for coating materials other than Tackle Twill.
How Long Will PSA Permanent Sports Twill Last On Garments?
We have tested this material up to 50 wash and dry cycles without fraying, cracking or peeling. If PSA Permanent Sports Twill is sewn down onto garments, then it should last as long as the garment itself.
Does The PS965 PSA Permanent Adhesive Gum Up Sewing Needles?
Our proprietary Hot-Melt Adhesives feature a needle glide additive designed to sew without gumming. Sharp needles work better than ballpoint needles. HINT: Coating the needle with silicone also helps to promote a clean stitch. All manners of stitching work well, including zig zag, satin, bean, and lockstitch.
Can I Use PSA Permanent Sports Twill To Embroider Custom Patches?
Yes. The polyester-based PSA Permanent Sports Twill works great for embroidering patches.
Do I Have To Sew The PSA Permanent Sports Twill Design After Cutting It?
No. PSA Permanent is the ultimate HTV Twill product, as it can be heat-applied, sewn onto the garment, or a combination of both on multicolor designs.
Can I Sublimate Onto PSA Permanent Twill? Which Tackle Twill Product Is Best For Sublimation?
No. We do not recommend sublimating onto PSA Permanent Tackle Twill as the temperature required for sublimation is higher than the temperature at which the Hot-Melt Adhesive will activate. In our experience, this causes the glue to come through the surface of the print. Therefore, we recommend sublimating onto Uncoated Sports Twill first, then applying PS965 5-Mil PSA Permanent Adhesive afterwards, which allows for heat pressing or sewing the transfer onto the garment(s).
