  • Temperature: 340°F
  • Time: 15 seconds
  • Pressure: Firm
  • Peel: N/A

HINT: Run a lint roller over the transfer area (on the garment) to remove any loose threads or stray fibers. Preheat your garment for 5 seconds. Place the transfer onto the garment, then place a cover sheet over the design. Time, temperature and pressure may vary if using an iron instead of a heat press machine.

Fabric letting has traditionally been sewn onto jerseys, but inventions patented by TwillUSA in the area of pressure-sensitive and permanent adhesive formulations allowed for decorating those athletic jerseys for the purpose of identifying player names, numbers and teams. This fabric became known as “Tackle Twill” because of its durability and use in full-contact sports, and TwillUSA takes its name from that fabric. Now, more than 40 years later, we manufacture more than 30 different HTV materials and fabrics in 100+ unique colors, patterns and textures. Our production facilities in Indiana & Nevada double as wholesale distribution centers for the United States, Canada and Mexico, allowing most UPS® Ground shipments ($10.00 Flat-Rate) to arrive at the customer’s doorstep in as little as 2 or 3 days.

What Is Polyback Metallic Twill?

Metallic Twill is a woven fabric that utilizes metallic yarns to create a shiny applique material. We coat the Polyback Metallic Twill with our proprietary hot-melt adhesive (P600 1.5-Mil 49″ Polyback) so that it can be cut easier, layered, re/positioned and heat pressed. Polyback Metallic Twill has a hardness specification on the upper end, which makes it much easier to achieve a clean cut. Clean cuts are are critical for embroidery machines that demand a precise edge to put a zigzag or satin stitch on the design.

Can I Layer The Metallic Twill?

If sewn, it can be layered 2 or 3 layers thick on itself or Sports Twill or another applique material like Sports Felt for multicolor designs. We recommend Metallic Twill as the topmost layer ONLY if heat pressing, and a maximum of 3 layers as 4 or more layers can be too thick to heat apply.

Is This Considered Tackle Twill?

Metallic Twill has been used as ‘Tackle Twill’ and for field logos, but is not normally considered tackle twill. Please consider our Sports Twill for that purpose.

Is The Polyback Metallic Twill PVC-Free?

Yes. The Metallic Twill and our proprietary hot-melt adhesives are 100% free of PVCs.

Do I Have To Sew The Design After Cutting It?

Yes. After cutting, the Polyback Metallic Twill can be heat-pressed onto the garment to hold the design in place while sewing. If you are looking to heat press the garment after sewing, we recommend our PSA Permanent or Permanent Metallic Twill instead of the Polyback.

How Is Metallic Twill Different Than Sports Twill?

These products are similar in that both are twill fabrics, but the Metallic Twill uses metallized nylon yarns whereas Sports Twill uses polyester filament yarns. There are also slight differences in the yarn size and the weave pattern.

What Blade Should I Use To Cut Polyback Metallic Twill?

A 60° blade works best for cutting Polyback Metallic Twill. On some machines it’s called the “thick” blade. Machines vary, but 120 grams of downforce is usually sufficient to get a clean cut.

Can I Cut Polyback Metallic Twill On A Tabletop Plotter?

This fabric cuts clean on all desktop cutters including Cricut and Silhouette Cameo. All forms of cutting work on the Polyback Metallic Twill — laser, plotter, flat-bed plotter, die cutting and shearing. NOTE: May fray a bit when plotter-cut and heat pressed.

Does Polyback Metallic Twill Have An Adhesive Backing?

Yes. The thermal adhesive backing completely seals the twill yarns and provides stability for cutting + sewing onto garments. Its polyester-based coating has no PVC and can be cut on plotters, dies, lasers or even hand-cut. This adhesive system — (P600 1.5-Mil 49″ Polyback) — is available separately for coating materials other than Metallic Twill.

Will The P600 1.5-Mil Adhesive Gum Up My Sewing Needles?

Our proprietary hot-melt adhesives feature a needle glide additive designed to sew without gumming. Sharp needles work better than ballpoint needles. HINT: Coating the needle with silicone also helps to promote a clean stitch. All manners of stitching work well, including zig zag, satin, bean, and lockstitch.

How Long Does Polyback Metallic Twill Last On The Garment?

We have tested this material up to 50 wash and dry cycles in a home laundry environment without fraying, cracking or peeling. Polyback Metallic Twill is sewn down onto garments, so it should last as long as the garment itself.

Can I Use Polyback Metallic Twill To Embroider Custom Patches?

Metallic Twill is not typically used for that purpose. Most patches are made from polyester Sports Twill.
